Ignition Casino And Poker Arrives on the Australian Market
Costa Rica-based Ignition casino is set to enter Australian internet casino market, taking advantage of the country’s baffling legislation. The arrival of Ignition comes months after Interactive Gambling Amendment Bill effectively banned online gambling in the Land Down Under.
Although the law itself is not yet finalized – since the legislation is under review by the Australian Parliament, a move which will be completed by September 14 – many operators are planning to leave, or have already left, the market. Among them are 888, Party Poker and Ladbrokes, while Amaya, GVC and PokerStars are packing their bags.
New Legislation Causing the Problems
Many claim the new legislation will push the gambling market from gray to black, due to its strict provisions. The powers to enforce the law will be increased, and the means to do so include civil penalties for offending operators, disrupting travel of directors of gambling firms and – possibly the most critical measure – the power to inform regulators around the world of operators breaking the law.
To be honest, the problems started back in 2001, when the Interactive Gaming Act came into effect, but the government had plenty of time to address the issues in the law. Although there have been some changes and minor tweaks to it, the main problems weren’t resolved.
Australian officials and lawmakers stated on several occasions these moves were meant to clear the way for domestic operators. Instead, the effect it had was just the opposite – it opened the door for offshore operators.
Ignition Has Started a New Trend
Ignition is apparently not scared of the grayness of the market and will offer Australian consumers online casino and poker games.
The company, who is already present in the United States and five US overseas territories, will share liquidity with the players operating in the States. Ignition will offer a wide variety of cash games and tournaments.
In July 2016, Ignition bought Bodog Poker, adding to their services one of the world’s biggest online poker communities and instantly becoming one of the largest Asian poker rooms online.
We can expect more offshore online gambling operators to follow Ignition’s move.
