Rainbow Riches

Rainbow Riches Slots Machine

We revisit an old classic from Barcrest, a slot that’s been highly popular in the UK and beyond. Rainbow Riches slot haven’t pioneered the extremely popular Irish theme that is still prevalent today, but it was one of the more notable releases that used it, and its popularity certainly helped it spread. This game became one of the most popular WMS slots online and was followed by 4 sequels: Rainbow Riches Freespins, Reels of Gold, Drops of Gold and Pick’n’Mix.

With 5 reels and 20 paylines, the game invites you to take a spin and experience the wonders it has to offer. With Wilds and three different Scatter bonuses, the potential to bet big and win bigger is there. It’s just a matter if you have the luck of the Irish!

Gameplay

The graphics are preserved from the physical version, and as such, your jaw probably won’t be dropping as you play it. The background has an odd shade of purple present, and while it does help make the slot seem more distinctive, we aren’t certain if it helps it really look good. Other than that, the game uses poker card icons and some uniquely drawn art for the symbols that activate special features, and that’s about all you can find here.

Rainbow Riches has a decent RTP at 95%, but lower than WMS superb Monopoly Big Event slot. Wins come very often, but a lot of them come off as a consolation prize, so to speak, as your minimum bet will take $0.20 out of your pocket, and the small wins that often appear on the reels will usually grant you around $0.05 or $0.15. Larger scores are certainly possible, and in our experience, usually came from the bonuses that can be found in this slot. Playable for $0.20 up to a whopping $400, the game will certainly appeal to a lot of players, even if it is a bit on the low variance side.

Rainbow Riches Slot Bonus Features

Wilds are a rare sight in this Barcrest release. They are a rather powerful tool, being able to replace anything but the three different Scatters in the slot, but we have seen them five or six times in all our time playing. While your luck may differ, for us, Wilds weren’t a reliable means of scoring wins.

Instead, Rainbow Riches gives you three different special features to work towards as you play. If you’re a cynic, you might argue that having three different Scatters means you have less of a shot to activate either of them, and you would probably be correct.

That isn’t to say that they aren’t effective when you do score them. Three leprechauns will put you in a small mini-game in which you spin a wheel of fortune, build a multiplier increase, and carry home a pot of gold. Wishing Wells bonus is a flat out cash reward, and the Pots of Gold special feature has you watching spinning cauldrons of gold to pick out your prize. All of these are very rare to catch, but the amount you can win from them makes it all worth it.

Verdict

In truth, there isn’t a lot to say about this old classic game that so many remember fondly when mentioned. For its time, it was a fantastic slot, and the potential for satisfying wins is there even in online versions of this release. The outdated graphics might turn off some, but if you want some pure and fun gameplay, Rainbow Riches has you covered.
